Classes are specifically designed with movements and routines to support/promote balance, flexibility, and coordination for those with Parkinson's. Classes are done from both a seated and standing position. Props are used regularly. Come check out a class and experience what it's all about.
“Dancing has all the elements Parkinson’s patients can benefit from: extension and flexibility and moving with intention,” says Damara Ganley, a professional dancer and trained Dance for PD instructor. “Dancers are trained to be in their bodies in a conscious way, and Parkinson’s patients also are learning to be in their bodies in a conscious way.”
I grew up in Bay City, Michigan and started dancing at the age of 3. I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BFA in dance and education, followed by a move to New York where I danced professionally with several dance companies. As a dance instructor, I’ve taught all ages throughout the United States and Europe, including Steps On Broadway, The American School in Switzerland, the Alvin Ailey Organization, the Brearley School and Sonoma State University.
My husband and I met on an airplane and after dating long distance for over a year, I moved to Petaluma in 2005 to be married and start new adventures. Together we have a daughter in junior high school, who’s passion is also dance and ballet.
